Hydroponics Lights – What are the Best Lights for Your Hydroponics System?

1. They are incredibly energy-efficient.

An incandescent light bulb works by heating a filament, which is simply a thin piece of metal. The filament gets so hot that it glows and gives off light. Of course it also gives off a lot of heat and a lot of the energy put into the bulb is lost as heat.

An LED, or a light emitting diode, does not heat a filament to create light. The light is created by the movement of electrons in a semi conductor material. Because LEDs are able to give off light without creating a lot of heat, they are far more energy-efficient than an incandescent bulb.

2. They have a very long life span.

A typical incandescent bulb will burn out because the heating of the filament eventually melts the thin piece of metal until it breaks. Once that happens, the lightbulb no longer functions. Because an LED light does not use a filament and creates very little heat, they last for a very long time before they need to be replaced.
